Course Reflection

Course Reflection So, I took time to reflect on the materials that were used in this course, the methodology that this course required, and the people I studied along the way during this course. First, Florida was home to the Calusa tribe who came here to conquer and prosper. The word "Calusa" meant strong and fierce people and these people were masters at archery and poison. These people wouldn't leave Florida and didn't give up Florida without a fight, killing Ponce De Leon. Florida's history consisted of not only tribal people but also cracker cowboys, the Seminoles, different Spanish's forts and missions, civil war stories, and WWII stories that all affected Florida's history to what it is today. People like William Bartram, Ponce de Leon, and a Greek man who transformed Tarpons Springs into a tourist attraction. Different tourist attractions developed Florida to be what it is today just like Disney or Ripley's believe it or not or even Gatorland.

Visit Camp Blanding and the Military Museum of North Florida By Elton Meta On April 12, 2023, I went to visit Camp Blanding and the Military Museum of North Florida. I went with my girlfriend Rosey again and we had the best time talking to the tour guide about WWII and the different equipment, guns, outfits, and lifestyle people had back in the war. We went for about an hour and a half to both places (12-4)! This was super interesting and fun to learn about the war and how important Camp Blanding was to the war and what artifacts and different items were either used or taken from the war! At the military museum of North Florida, one thing that caught my eye was the memorabilia that the Americans took from the Nazis. I saw the newspaper that said "Nazis out!" and also "Hitler is Dead!".  I also saw the Nazi flag with blood all over it.  Seeing what the Germans had on them like "Mein Kampf".  Was absolutely nuts to see. Mein Kampf is the book that Hitler wr

The Land Remembered Novel

The Land Remembered Novel     To start this blog off, I want to describe what "The Land Remembered" novel is and what it is about. The Land Remembered is a novel that is based in the mid-1800s going to the mid-1900s and it follows this family, the MacIvey family, who are struggling to survive in Florida's harsh and unforgiving landscape. The novel follows this family's hardships like the bond of the family, challenges like hurricanes and floods, and the vivid Floridan wilderness. With the help of an ex-Slave named Skillit, the MacIveys catch over a hundred cows and develop a relationship so tight with Skillit, he eventually takes their name as a sign of respect and to purchase land.  Glenda joined the clan with ease and as she gets into the clan, Emma asked her for her help to cook for the men. "Come sit with me. Those men will be coming in soon with their stomachs growling"(pg. 232). And Glenda was just trying to ask her how it works to cook for 6 people a

According to this chapter, list 2 things that were in desperate need of “reconstruction” ? Restoration of the Union and Civil Law Transformation of southern society and favoring of the freed slaves Florida stands apart from other areas of the South in the way that General Newton handled two main areas: politics & freedmen. Discuss both. He told Florida planters that the slaves were freemen, and they were only to pay them and not keep them hostage. General Newton wanted wartime reconstruction, presidential reconstruction too. Demand for cotton was (increasing or decreasing) during the early years of reconstruction.
